|Position Summary and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the CEO, you will draw on your extensive leadership experience to design and deliver innovative strategies that position United Way Ottawa as a vital catalyst for positive change in our community.
In this dynamic and exciting role, you will work in a complex and fluid environment with key stakeholder groups including donors, front-line social services providers, government officials, and business leaders. Working closely with internal teams, members of our board and other vital volunteers, you will lead an extremely talented, newsroom-style marketing and communications shop who is responsible for articulating what our organization will look, sound, and feel like, through the United Way brand.
In an increasingly competitive philanthropic landscape, your role will be to showcase the depth and lasting effects of our work and to help our brand resonate with people in new ways – especially among diverse communities and a younger generation of potential donors. In addition to having deep experience in marketing and communications, you will have a passion for fundraising. Your background has provided you with the understanding of the unique dynamics of managing the collaboration between a marketing/communications team and a sales/fundraising team. Further, you bring an expertise and an excitement to using new technologies and techniques to help the organization respond quickly to the demands in our community, to engage our donors and ensure that United Way Ottawa is relevant, and can make lasting impact.
You will be joining the organization during an exciting time where, through an amalgamation of four United Ways in the broader Ottawa community, we will be extending our collective impact and voice. You will be uniquely positioned to support the development of the strategy that will ensure the consistent application of the brand within this broader United Way community while continuing to support national and international branding initiatives. This position will play an integral role in modeling and carrying out our organization’s mission, vision, brand promise and the organizations core values that are the foundation to the new amalgamated entity.
|Key accountabilities for this role include:
Providing direction and management for a dynamic Marketing and Communications team, creating an environment of respect, accountability, motivation, professional growth and high productivity
Thoroughly understanding and articulating the organization’s mission, vision, brand, history, values, key stakeholders and financial strategy
Ensuring accountability to goals, encouraging and fostering collaboration and innovation within and between departments across the organization.
Demonstrating a deep knowledge and appreciation for the diversity that Ottawa and the surrounding communities have and an awareness about how to speak to those diverse communities.
Inspiring senior volunteers and stakeholders to champion your vision and strategy for marketing and communications
Strategy, and Subject Matter Expertise
Providing strategic marketing and communication expertise and leadership while supporting the overall direction of the organization and the delivery of an impact agenda to our communities.
Embracing and building an innovative environment that promotes the use of digital marketing across all donor relations activities within the broader United Way amalgamated community.
Driving the embodiment of the United Way brand into all marketing and communication activities and collateral
Ensuring consistency of message and brand into all marketing activities and collateral
Providing holistic oversight of all marketing and communications operations and ensure alignment to organizational strategy
Working closely with our fundraising team, you will collaboratively look for opportunities to enhance and build our brand through new partnerships that support our reputation over the long-term.
Combining your experience and knowledge of the Ottawa philanthropic sector, you will expertly lead your team in promoting greater understanding of the greatest issues and challenges that our community faces.

The successful applicant must possess the following qualifications:
University degree in business with specialization in marketing or related field
A minimum of 10 years progressive senior leadership experience in marketing and communications with a focus on digital marketing strategy and execution
Proven extensive experience leading organizations through change
Demonstrated capacity for long term digital marketing planning
Knowledge of fundraising and Canadian or Ottawa charitable behaviour
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
Strong financial management and human resources management skills
Bilingualism would be an asset; excellent English communications skills required with, ideally, working
|knowledge of French

Must have valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle
