Job Title: Employment Counsellor for the Non Profit Sector
Status: Full time (35 hours/week)
Salary: $27.83 / hr

The Non Profit Employer Engagement Project is a new project at World Skills Employment Centre. This project will work with non-profit organizations (small, medium and large) in Ottawa and surrounding area to enhance their ability to recruit, hire, onboard and retain internationally educated individuals. World Skills Employment Centre will also assist job-ready internationally educated individuals to compete successfully for positions in the non profit sector.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Intake, Assessment and Referral o Work with pre-employment team at World Skills Employment Centre to facilitate the referral of clients to the Non Profit Employer Engagement Project o Present Non Profit Employer Engagement Project to all relevant programs at World Skills Employment Centre (Job Search Workshops, The Ottawa Job Match Network, Career Access for Newcomers, Enhanced Language Training Programs) o Coordinate with pre-employment facilitators/counsellors to provide support to clients referred to the Non Profit Employer Engagement Project and to receive list of referred clients with necessary files and documentation o Inform clients that they have been referred to Non Profit Employer Engagement Project o Invite clients to relevant workshops, events and other activities with the Non Profit Employer Engagement Project o Keep list of clients, on the database, who have attended workshops, events and other activities and those who did not attend o Follow up and re-invite clients who were not able to attend (up to 2 more times) o Refer clients to Resume and Interview clinics as required Workshops o Design 4 workshops to help clients successfully compete for jobs and mentorship opportunities within the non profit sector o Facilitate monthly workshops for clients o Modify workshops to meet clients collective needs One-on-One Support o Meet with clients one-on-one to evaluate client's needs and strengths to ensure best candidates for current and future job opportunities within Non Profit Employer Engagement Project o Support clients in competing successfully for jobs in the Non Profit Sector such as resume tailoring, interview preparation, labour market research, mentorship, internships and creating a job search strategy o Complete the full cycle recruiting process: distributing job orders, screening resumes, telephone interviews, face-to-face interviews, coordinating interviews for employers. o Record and update client’s information on the database. Client follow up and reporting o Record all client interventions (phone calls, email correspondence, job matching, mentorship matching, internships, applications, resume and interview support, networking) o Follow up with clients on a regular basis and record all 3, 6, 9 and 12-month follow-ups o Provide monthly status reports o Liaise with project administrative support for any discrepancies Teamwork o Execute recruitment tasks through a thorough and collaborative team effort. o Communicate with peers by sharing recruiting "best practices" and providing accurate, documentation on candidates into candidate tracking system. o Attend Non Profit Employer Engagement Project meetings and staff meetings of respective organizations o Work with staff and programs of the partnering organizations to share information, best practices relevant to helping clients be job ready and make an easy transition into Non Profit Employer Engagement Project Employer Engagement / Job Matching / Mentorship and Internship Placement o Keep a routine check on employment opportunities in the non profit sector which can be sent to clients o Work with the Employer Outreach Coordinator to coordinate efforts between employer needs and matching client profiles o Identify STAR clients to promote to employers o Select clients for Employer Engagement Events such as Learning Events, Mentorship etc. o Record client interventions, as it relates to matching clients to employment, internships or mentorship opportunities o Attend Employer Engagement Events as required by the program QUALIFICATIONS and COMPETENCIES:
  • post-secondary education and experience in a related field
  •  experience in the nonprofit sector is an asset
  •  background in adult education and understanding of adult learning principles are assets
  •  experience in designing workshops, facilitating groups and individual counseling
  •  experience in job matching is an asset
  •  knowledge of immigration and labour market trends
  •  experience in language assessment is an asset
  •  proficiency in English. French is an asset.
  •  strong presentation, writing and organizational skills
  •  strong intercultural and communication skills
  •  sensitivity to, and understanding of, issues of concern to the immigrant community
  •  ability to work effectively as a team member is essential, with excellent interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution skills, maturity, integrity, and initiative and resourcefulness in achieving goals. Effective time management
