(Canadian Market Access and Capacity Building Services) TFO Canada is currently recruiting for a new full-time Project Manager position located in Ottawa. The successful candidate will be involved in the ongoing management and execution of a five-year Canadian Market Access and Capacity Building Services project.  The Project Manager will be responsible for managing trade development projects such as trade missions and seminars on the Canadian market and for maintaining relationships with trade support institutions and Canadian-based trade representatives for developing countries in Asia & the Middle East. Most of the Project Manager’s time will be focused on the delivery of services to seven TFO Canada Priority Countries and four Least-Developed Countries in the region.
Duties:
  • Manages and, as required, participates in the execution of trade-related technical assistance and capacity building projects/activities such as seminars, training courses, workshops, trade missions, including trade fairs, and other assistance projects in Canada and abroad;
  • Participates in program development of TFO Canada’s trade-related technical assistance and capacity building projects and activities;
  • Contributes to the development of project proposals and program documents;
  • Develops and monitors project budgets and provides related project administration in collaboration with TFO Canada’s support staff;
  • Prepares project activity and participates in project tracking, reporting and follow up (including conducting surveys); for outcome reports
  • Coordinates the activities of project consultants (TFO Canada Associates), partners and suppliers to ensure the successful implementation and management of TFO Canada’s trade-related technical assistance and capacity building projects;
  • Provides logistical and related support to the project consultants;
  • Monitors ongoing project implementation by associates and partners (including travel abroad to do so) and contributes to evaluation activities;
  • Manages and participates in special projects from time to time, and performs other duties as required related to the successful execution of TFO Canada’s mandate.

Qualifications:
  • Five (5) years of experience in project management or implementation, including planning, budgeting, procurement and contracting of external service providers, monitoring & reporting
  • Strong ability to manage stakeholder relations
  • At least three (3) years of combined experience in international development and/or international trade or promotion: export marketing, importing/sourcing and/or providing trade development services for exporters
  • Sound understanding of the Canadian import market and sources of information
  • Previous experience organizing and facilitating trade shows would be an asset
  • Experience in results based reporting and impact measurement
  • Relevant work experience in at least one of the countries of focus
  • Excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills, including report-writing
  • Excellent computer application skills, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as some experience working with database applications
  • Experience in training (e.g. delivery of workshops or seminars) would be an asset
  • Fluency (oral and written) in English, French and /or Spanish are considered an asset
  • Ability to travel (4-8 weeks per year)
  • Relevant university degree, preferably at the Master’s level; a CITP designation preferred TFO Canada offers a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience and the norms of the international development NGO sector.
