Position Details
POSITION: Resource Centre Advisor
LOCATION: Employment Access Centre –  Located inside the Merivale Mall
PLACEMENT:  August 2017

NATURE AND SCOPE: The Resource Centre Advisor is responsible for assisting with the delivery of the services provided at the Employment Access Centre. This person will assist with the pre-screening process of clients who qualify for any of the services provide as well as informing clients of other available services and redirecting them to those organizations.  The Resource Centre Advisor is the public’s first point of contact so the dissemination of accurate information and courteous service is critical.  The person must be detail oriented, able to work within a team environment, have a high degree of initiative and adaptability, able to multitask and have a strong customer service focus.  The successful candidate will demonstrate personal commitment to and understanding of the Y’s mission, vision, values and participant outcomes.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Some of the responsibilities of this position are;
  • Provide rotational reception support, data collection, scheduling, report preparation, filing, and data entry
  • Assisting clients with job search related activities
  • Facilitate and develop workshops and information sessions
  • Orientation of new clients
  • Assisting clients to access services within the Y and community
  • Referrals to other services and maintenance of accurate resources
  • Maintain standards for reporting and operating procedures
  • Provide reports and statistical data as required
  • Maintain accurate resources
  • Maintain supplies and monitor equipment service agreements
  • Participates in staff meetings and as member of the team

CORE COMPETENCIES: ORGANIZATIONAL AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING: Demonstrates and promotes a personal understanding of and appreciation for the vision, mission and values of the NCR YMCA-YWCA.
PLANNING AND ORGANIZATION: Ability to establish a clearly defined and effective course of action for self and others to accomplish short and long term work goals.
PROBLEM SOLVING: Ability to identify and issue, gather and process relevant information, determine possible solutions, select appropriate responses and implement and evaluate them.
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Ability to speak, write, listen and secure information in a variety of settings.  Ability to cooperate with others to achieve results.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bilingualism in English and French essential
  • Experience in employment-related services an asset
  • Related post-secondary education or equivalent experience
  • One year related experience in a like environment
  • Must be detail oriented and be able to multitask
  • Have a high degree of initiative and adaptability
  • Be able to work within a close team environment
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Suite, including Excel and Access
  • Excellent customer service skills and focus
  • Experience working effectively with diverse clientele, particularly immigrants
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources
  • Facilitation skills for workshops and information sessions
  • Proficiency in other languages an asset
