Ancoura is a not-for-profit corporation that provides housing and support for people living with a mental illness. Ancoura residents live in three-bedroom townhouses, rented and furnished by Ancoura.  Each home also has a team of about five volunteers who provide a “circle of friends” for the residents. The residents and volunteers at each home are supported by coordinators who offer problem-solving assistance and ensure that the home is running smoothly. The Assistant Coordinator will provide coordination at two homes under the direction of Ancoura’s Coordinator. Ancoura currently has six homes and plans to open a new home this fall.
Responsibilities:
  • Interview and assess potential residents for new homes
  • Support residents through weekly house meetings and one-on-one counselling
  • Provides on-call support on a regular basis (one weekend per month) and as needed
  • Plan group and community activities that promote the well-being of residents
  • Educate and coach volunteers through volunteer training and regular meetings
  • Manage files related to two homes
  • Maintain and nurture contacts with community mental health services
  • Writes a written report for monthly board meetings
  • Liaise with the Coordinator on a regular basis
  • Assist the Coordinator and board with other activities as required

Qualifications:
  • Formal education in social work (B.S.W.), counselling or related field, with mental health specialization        
  • Experience working in the mental health field    
  • English fluency essential.  Conversational skills in French are an asset  
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Volunteer experience: as a volunteer or working with volunteers           
  • Practical one-on-one counselling skills    
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills  
  • Ability to handle crisis situations and mediation 
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and the internet    
  • Good presentation skills  
  • Well-organized, self-directed, innovative and able to work with minimal supervision  in a multiple task environment         

Contract:  This is a part-time position; beginning at one day a week and increasing to two days a week as demand requires. Salary commensurate with experience.
