The Director of Finance reports to the Chief Executive Officer and works closely with the Vice Presidents of Shepherds of Good Hope (SGH) and Shepherds of Good Hope Foundation (SGHF). The Director of Finance works with the Finance team and senior leaders in the organization to support all SGH/SGHF programs and services. Leadership, attention to detail, problem-solving skills and decisiveness are critical for success in this role.
The Director manages the organization’s financial reporting requirements, recommends and implements accounting policies, delivers financial forecasts and budgets and implements systems, processes and internal controls that will meet today’s rigorous regulations in the not-for-profit environment.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director is a strategic thinker who places a significant focus on financial and risk analyses. The person in this role empowers the finance team by combining exceptional skills and experience with empathy and works with the management teams and Boards of Directors of Shepherds of Good Hope and Shepherds of Good Hope Foundation (SGHF) to achieve sound financial decisions. The Director adheres to the highest ethical standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides support and advice to the CEO and Vice Presidents of Shepherds of Good Hope and Shepherds of Good Hope Foundation by identifying efficiencies and recommending improvements to processes, systems and controls via accurate financial analyses.
  • Manages budget development for both organizations and works with the CEO, VPs, Directors and Managers to deliver realistic budgets and forecasts within established time frames.
  • Develops, recommends, monitors, reviews and revises financial policies, procedures and internal controls and ensures compliance.
  • Ensures all accounting and payroll functions are conducted in a timely manner and in compliance with internal policies, procedures and controls.
  • Oversees the internal management reporting processes in order to deliver value-added services to internal programs and services. This includes ongoing managerial financial coaching for Program Managers and members of the management team.
  • Oversees the audit processes for SGH and SGHF.
  • Supervises the Finance team, which includes monitoring work assignments, offering coaching and completing annual performance evaluations in line with the organization’s performance management program.
  • Works with financial institutions to manage investment portfolios and assets.
  • Works with the CEO and VPs on developing, maintaining, revising, analyzing and reporting on risk management plans.
  • Manages financial relationships, including, but not limited to, banks, insurance agencies, partnering agencies and corporations.
  • Ensures all statutory remittances (including PST, GST, all applicable federal taxes, WSIB, and EHT), T3010 annual returns and any/all other relevant financial documentation are filed and reported well within regulated submission deadlines.
  • Actively participates as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

  • Professional Accounting Designation
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant management experience in a not-for-profit accounting environment.
  • Knowledge of SAP Business One software.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and computerized accounting software.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and provide a Police Record Check satisfactory to Shepherds of Good Hope.
