Amnesty International Canada is seeking an ITS Assistant to support its objectives of improved integration in all of its systems, rationalisation of its applications, and increased capacity in its systems and staff to capture, access, and utilize both data and information to support its priority work.

This is a new position that is being piloted, with the potential of becoming a permanent post.

We are looking for a skilled ITS Assistant primarily to assist the ITS Coordinator in maintaining our information technology systems and networks. You will perform both technical and administrative tasks to ensure functionality and efficiency of computer and telecom systems. The ITS Assistant must be knowledgeable in software, hardware, networks and business processes. They must be critical thinkers and problem-solvers, with great attention to detail. Since end user support and teamwork are important aspects of the role, excellent communication and people skills are required.

Primary Responsibilities:

Assist the ITS Coordinator in the following areas:

  • Institute protocols for the use of ITS across departments and projects
  • Provide advice on the most suitable ITS choices
  • Provide technical support and training on systems and networks
  • Act as link between end users and higher level support
  • Install and configure software and hardware (printers, network cards etc.)
  • Monitor system and network performance
  • Perform troubleshooting, repairs and data restoration
  • Performance maintenance activities (e.g. backups)
  • Maintain licenses and upgrade schedules
  • Collaborate with other professionals to maintain standards and functionality
  • Based on organisational priorities, perform other tasks as assigned by the ITS Manager (or the Executive Director).

Requirements:

  • A minimum of a community college diploma in computer operations
  • Three years of comparable experience
  • Experience in help desk, desktop and server support
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate related to Office 365, Windows 10, or Windows Server 2012-2016 preferred
  • Understanding of TCP/IP protocols and LAN/WAN configuration
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair issues
  • Create and support business processes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external contacts; gaining sound understanding of client needs and existing business processes; and communicating the long-range vision in order to facilitate planning and to maintain focus
  • Good judgment and initiative, ability to work well independently
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Experience with iMIS or other CRM/EMS application to track activity, run reports and assess engagement
  • Adaptable to changing priorities, workload peaks, and off-hour support as required
  • Two years of experience with a membership-based NGO or charity a definite asset
  • SQL knowledge an asset
  • Familiar with the development of Risk Management Plans an asset.

Location:  Ottawa (AI Canada’s national office)

Hours:  37.5 hours per week

Duration of Contract:  24 months, with the possibility of becoming permanent
