Job Description

 

Reporting to the Manager, Compensation, Pension and Benefits, the Compensation Officer provides advice and guidance on compensation to College managers.  The incumbent will support the development and implementation of the new compensation framework for all part-time employees as it relates to the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act.  The position supports Academic Chairs and Human Resources Business Partners in the salary calculations process for part-time/sessional employees in ensuring the correct placement on the new scales for teaching authorizations.  Additionally, the Compensation Officer works with leaders to coordinate the reduction of vacation liabilities.   The incumbent will advise part-time employees as to their step placement and provide information related to the calculation.

The position provides assistance with the implementation of the part-time support staff certification as related to overall compensation.

Required Qualifications 

  • Minimum three (3) year diploma/degree; preferably related to Compensation/Human Resources;
  • Minimum five (5) years’ relevant compensation experience working in an office environment; preferably in a post-secondary institution;
  • Must have intermediate to advanced excel skills;
  • Experience creating and maintaining formula-driven spreadsheets with the ability to handle large volumes of data and provide detailed reports;
  • Experience and skills in decision making and the ability to motivate and persuade others;
  • Strong analytical and coordination skills;
  • Excellent organizational/project management skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple conflicting demands and deadlines;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, etc.), and familiarity with Algonquin College systems such as: HRIS, BUS, and PeopleSoft would be considered an asset;
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both spoken and written, to communicate effectively with the public, in person or by telephone;
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team;
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to set priorities and to work within deadlines;
  • Respect for a strict code of confidentiality.
