Job Description

 

Reporting to the Vice President, Innovation and Strategy, the incumbent is responsible for coaching, mentoring, and training all levels of employees in continuous improvement and respect for people in order to support and implement the College’s strategic direction. The incumbent establishes and maintains processes to assure that practices align with the strategic plan and industry recognized best practices.

The incumbent is responsible for managing improvement initiatives with teams and for influencing change within and across business units. The role involves communication at all levels throughout the organization and leading changes that will help the College develop a new management model and be sustainable in the years to come. The Manager is a key resource for the senior team to use in order to implement the new culture of continuous improvement and respect for people. The Algonquin College Way is the culture the College wants to implement and is based on the Lean methodology also known as the Toyota Production System. The incumbent will champion and deploy business and process improvement methodologies, particularly the Lean methodology, and tools across the College with a focus on continuous improvement. The role involves building capability through knowledge sharing and coaching by effectively engaging with stakeholders, deploying methodologies, tools and metrics appropriate to the needs of a particular project.

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that decisions/recommendations are based on solid analysis, business cases and measureable outcomes. The incumbent develops and maintains a reputation as an internal consultant for any problem solving or design initiatives. The Manager is responsible for training and developing employees that are capable of ultimately implementing and improving the Algonquin College Way. The incumbent is responsible to develop, maintain, and report performance measures and progress on the cultural change to the Executive Team and the Leadership team.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) year Diploma/Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Science, Engineering, or Process Engineering is an asset. A current professional designation related to your primary Diploma/Degree would be desirable;
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Business Process Analyst or Consultant in Lean implementation based on the Toyota Production System;
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in business process improvement, assessment and analysis, using a collaborative approach;
  • Experience analyzing or modelling business processes and data using a variety of tools and techniques (i.e. Visio and Excel) and other applications (i.e. Microsoft Office software products);
  • Proven facilitation experience including designing workshops, facilitating group sessions and working with teams to gain crucial input from key contributors;
  • Experience in a unionized environment preferred;
  • Demonstrated progressive experience in leadership and management related to human, fiscal and other resources;
  • Demonstrated initiative, systematic problem solving, interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills;
  • Experience in process review, specifically in engaging employees to make the changes;
  • Experience in the development and presentation of proposals, briefings and/or reports;
  • Experience in relationship building, engaging employees in problem solving and continuous improvement;
  • Experience in leading a cultural change towards a continuous improvement culture and showing respect for people.
