Summary

As a safety manager you must have excellent attention to detail to identify hazards. You will also be able to discover opportunities for improving conditions and execute various safety programs. The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential.

The ideal candidate will have proven leadership experience preferably in the field of Occupational Health and Safety or an Operations Manager/Business Manager with OH&S as part of their responsibility.

The candidate has strong people/team development and management experience. Budget management, project management, and planning are key skills to have.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and executing health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
  • Evaluating practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
  • Promoting occupational health and safety within the organization by advising management on how to strengthen the safety culture, reinforce the Company’s “SAFETY” values, support project operations, reduce incidents, encourage reporting, conduct audits, facilitate and develop training, conduct statistical analysis, pinpoint trouble spots, drive leading indicator improvement and ensure the legislative compliant;
  • Supporting all the Company’s Sectors in their pursuit of the single approach to Health & Safety management;
  • Analyzing work environments, design programs and recommend appropriate controls.
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics
  • Develop a consistent compensation philosophy in line with work culture and organizational objectives
  • Deploy effective communication strategies and success metrics

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline
  • Minimally seven (7) years of pertinent HSE working experience
  • Outstanding leadership and people/team development experience
  • Professional HSE designation
  • Strong communication skills in both French & English
  • Solid presentation skills with the ability to interface with all levels
  • Initiative-taker and self-starter
  • Ability to face challenges and resolve problems
  • Good negotiation and analytical skills
