About the Academic Certification Program:
EDUCATION- EXPERIENCE-EXAMINATION (3Es). This pathway consists of three steps: Graduation with a Professional degree (Education), Internship (Experience) and Examination. It starts at the CACB with the certification of Graduates academic qualifications and it is followed by Internship and Examination steps that are under the responsibility of the Provincial/Territorial Architects Associations.
About the BEFA Program:
Since September 2012, the Canadian Architectural Licensing Authorities (CALA) developed an alternative pathway to licensure specific to experienced foreign licensed architects. This pathway allows eligible candidates to obtain, with an alternative to internship and examination, licensure to practice in Canada and to use the title of architect. This alternative pathway is called the Broadly Experienced Foreign Architects (BEFA) Program.
BEFA Program doesn’t require academic certification. It assesses candidates’ experience against the Canadian standards of competency.
Successful candidates are granted BEFA Certification which allows them to apply for registration/licensure with the provincial/territorial association of architects of their choice and to become an architect.
