DFO, the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, has gone fishing! For talent!

It is fishing for scientists, technicians, research managers and policy analysts in the ocean of talent in Canada’s four employment equity groups: women, visible minorities, people with disabilities, and aboriginal people. Under the title “All Hands on Science”, DFO went on a month-long country-wide fishing expedition. The DFO fishers (recruiters) dropped their lines at World Skills on March 29 — giving our clients plenty of time to apply for the various jobs before the closing date of midnight, April 13. The jobs are:

· Biologists

· Physical Scientists

· Science Technicians

· Scientific Analysts

· Program Support

About 100 World Skills clients were on hand for a great presentation by Mélanie Bissonnette, Team Lead, Enterprise Staffing, about the department, its many opportunities and the All Hands on Science campaign. Fiona Wagner, a species-at-risk Biologist, added a vivid account of her fieldwork and varied professional experiences with DFO. While we won’t know until April 14th how many of our newcomers apply for these rare professional-level opportunities, Mélanie was pleased with her morning’s catch of 100 very live potential candidates.
