FIN YESS Program
Background Information:
The Federal Internship for Newcomers (FIN) Program, which is managed by the Settlement and Integration Policy Branch within Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), aims to provide short-term work experience to internationally trained professionals in federal, provincial and municipal government organizations
The Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS), run by Employment Social Development Canada (ESDC) aims to provide holistic services to support all young Canadians develop their skills and gain paid experience to successfully transition to the labor market. The YESS program also encourages innovations to increase capacity across the youth service provider.
The FIN-YESS initiative is a project which aims to develop and test new strategies to enable newcomer youth to successfully apply for an internship with the federal government through FIN.
It is a collaboration between 3 organizations: World Skills Employment Center, Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization (OCISO), and World University Service of Canada (WUSC).
Participants in the FIN YESS will receive:
- Personalized employment assessment
- Access to a 1-day workshop on FIN and the Public Service (covering topics such as career exploration, applying for the government, interviewing for the government, etc.)
- Access to a networking event with public servants in March 2024
- Access to 1-1 employment support
- Access to a public servant mentor, through OCISO
About the Youth Advisory Committee:
Requirements to apply:
- Aged 21-30
- Newcomer (Less than 10 years in Canada)
- Located in Ottawa
Commitment:
- About 4 hours commitment sometime between August – October
Role:
- Provide input to design and plan program activities such as workshops, webinars, speaker sessions, etc.
Compensation:
- As a thank you for their time, members will receive $100 paid by cheque
