Targeted Recruitment Event – Not-for-Profit Social Services
August 17, 2022.
Did you know that the Pinecrest-Queensway Community Health Centre – often imply called “PQ” – is the largest CHC in Ontario? It employs over 350 people working in dozens of programs from medical clinics to childcare and “system navigation” to employment assistance.
“In an organization this large and diverse, there are always job openings,” explained Victoria Scagnetti, one of PQ’s four recruitment administrators.
She was pitching to a room full of potential hires on August 17th, at a monthly “Meet the Employer” recruiting event for women in World Skills’ Empowering Visible Minority Newcomer Women (ENW) program.
Victoria took the group on a guided tour of PQ’s careers Web pages and its job application system. She encouraged the women to apply for jobs in specific programs “you can see yourself in.” On the application system, they will be able to indicate they are World Skills clients by answering the question, “How did you hear about this job?”. Even though it is not mandatory at PQ, “it is a good idea to include a cover letter to personalize your application,“ she advised.
PQ keeps applications on file for future vacancies. They review all applications they receive for possible fit in all areas of the organization, and search this database for potential candidates at the start of every staffing process. Just the same, she recommended that people sign up for job alerts to stay on top of the steadily changing job market at PQ.
After responding clearly, completely, yet concisely to all questions, Victoria gave out her e-mail address and encouraged everyone to contact her whenever they have questions about working at PQ
